Stasys JAKELIŪNAS (G-EFA, LT) has left the Lithuanian Green and Farmers Union to become an Independent, while remaining in the Greens/EFA Group.

European Commission

Josep BORRELL, current Spanish Foreign Minister, was officially nominated by the European Council and accepted by President-Designate Ursula VON DER LEYEN as the next High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

Vera JOUROVA has been nominated for a second term as the Czech Commissioner by Czech Prime Minister Andrej BABIS.

Directorates-General

Communication (DG COMM)
Sari ARTJOKI is the new Head of Unit B4 (Experience Europe), replacing former Acting Head of Unit Ana JUAREZ.

Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN)
Declan COSTELLO has been appointed Deputy Director-General responsible for Directorates C, D, F and G replacing former Acting Deputy Director-General Carlos MARTINEZ MONGAY. COSTELLO also takes over MARTINEZ MONGAY’s other former position as Acting Director of Directorate G (Economies of the Member States II). COSTELLO therefore leaves the position of Principal Advisor to the Deputy Director General.

European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO)
Michael KÖHLER has been appointed as Deputy Director General, filling a vacant position.

European Research Council Executive Arency (ERCEA)
José Pablo AMOR has left the position of Director of ERCEA, with Waldemar KÜTT serving as Acting Director.

Energy (DG ENER)
Ditte Juul JØRGENSEN has been appointed Deputy Director-General responsible for Directorates A, B and C; replacing Gerassimos THOMAS.

Human Resources and Security (DG HR)
Danielle DEPIESSE has left the position of Head of Unit D4 (Medical Service Luxembourg), being replaced with new Acting Head of Unit Italo LOMBARDI.

Luminiţa NICOLAIE has been appointed permanent Director of Directorate IDOC (Investigation and Disciplinary Office), having previously served as Acting Director. Therefore, she will leave the position of Head of Unit IDOC.1 (Disciplinary Affairs) but will continue as Acting Head of Unit until a replacement is found.

Research and Innovation (EG RTD)
Anne HAGLUND-MORRISSEY has become the new Acting Head of Unit 05 (Horizon Europe Association), replacing former Acting Head of Unit Andrea CARIGNANI.

Waldemar KÜTT has left the position of Head of Unit C2 (Bioeconomy and Food Systems), being replaced by Acting Head of Unit Dyanne BENNINK.

Jean-Claude BURGELMAN has been appointed as an Open Access Envoy in Directorate G (Research and Innovation Outreach), filling a vacant position.

Secretariat-General (DG SG)
Jivka PETKOVA has been appointed as Director of Directorate A (Strategy, Better Regulation and Corporate Governance), filling a vacant position.

Michael KARNITSCHNIG has been appointed as Director of Directorate H (External Relations) filling a vacant position.

Spokesperson Service
Marietta GRAMMENOU has been appointed as a Press Officer covering the area of Research, Science and Innovation.

Translation (DGT)
Roxana Manuela ENCIU is the new Head of Unit S1 (Demand Management), replacing former Acting Head of Unit Marcus ANGIONI.

Pia VOTTONEN (FI) has departed from being a Finnish Eurojust member in order to return to Finland to work as a Special Prosecutor.

Public Affairs

Transparency International

Michiel van HULTAN has been announced as the new Brussels Bureau chief, the role begins in September.

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
Starting in November, Thomas GUTSCHKER will replace the German press corps’ dean Michael STABENOW as a correspondent.

National News

Germany
Susannne KÖRBER is replacing Alexander PLAPPERT as spokesperson for Coreper I issues at the German Permanent Representation to the EU.

Italy
Sandro GOZI will serve in Prime Minister Edouard PHILIPPE’s Cabinet until Brexit takes place, at which point he is set to take up a vacated British MEP seat.

Romania
Six days after being sworn in as Interior Minister, Nicolae MOGA is stepping down from the role, stating the Ministry needs “a new start” following a recent police scandal. Mihai-Viorel FIFOR has been appointed as Acting Interior Minister.

United Kingdom
The government of Boris JOHNSON were defeated in its first electoral test as the Liberal Democrat candidate Jane DODDS was victorious in the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election ahead of former Conservative MP Chris DAVIES; who was recalled from parliament following a conviction for election expenses fraud. This reduces the working government majority to three since Charlie ELPHICKE, an MP who has been suspended from the Conservative Party, is expected to continue to vote with the government.
