Ireland’s minister of state for EU affairs Lucinda Creighton is confident that Ireland’s experience and expertise can help guide the EU as her country takes over the EU’s six-month rotating presidency in the new year.
Creighton kicks off our Irish presidency special issue, writing, “In spite of our size and our current domestic challenges, we have shown ourselves capable of taking responsible decisions with the goal of delivering real reform and results for our citizens.”
She highlights priorities including reaching an agreement on the multiannual financial framework, cohesion policy, the common agricultural policy and Horizon 2020, adding, “Ireland knows better than most how great a force for change the EU can be, and how much can be achieved when we work together.”
