Green Week 2014, world no tobacco day, Brussels economic forum, development and more...
EU environment commissioner Janez Potočnik kicks off our Green Week special issue by saying his “ultimate goal is to see Europe make the logical choice and opt for a more circular economy”. “In recent years,” says the Slovenian official, “the EU has been putting in place policies and targets to ensure that we can live well, within the limits of our planet”. “The aftermath of Green Week will see the commission proposing a circular economy package that will set out the key building blocks needed to unlock EU economic potential to be more productive while using fewer resources,” he writes. Meanwhile, executive director of the European environment agency Hans Bruyninckx calls for Europe to undertake a “fundamental transformation” of its existing systems to respect the limits of the planet.
