The Dods EU Guide into the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the EU is a handy compressed overview of the main priorities, key dates and contacts of the Austrian Presidency. It will allow public affairs professionals to easily navigate the EU political agenda for the next six months.

The Austrian Presidency takes over from the Bulgarian Presidency in a particularly demanding context, marked by ongoing negotiations on Brexit and on the Multi-Annual Financial Framework post-2020 and preparations for the upcoming European elections. The three leading priorities are security and the fight against illegal migration, securing prosperity & competitiveness through digitalisation and stability in the European neighbourhood.

The discussions and agreements expected to be reached on files under this overarching framework during this period are likely to outlast the Austrian Presidency.

The Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union has set three priority areas under the banner of a Europe that protects;

• Security and the fight against illegal migration
• Securing prosperity and competitiveness through digitalisation
• Stability in the European neighbourhood – EU perspective of the Western Balkans/South Eastern Europe

The Austrian priorities are aligned to the 18-month Programme of the Presidency trio, made up of the presidencies of Estonia, Bulgaria and Austria.

The guide below lists the priorities according to each Council configuration.
