As the new college of commissioners take office, what are the key challenges that lie ahead for von der Leyen 2.0?
It’s been a year of significant upheaval globally and within the EU – as well as at The Parliament.
I moved to Brussels in January with the daunting task of helping to rebuild a print magazine in transition, and one that had scant digital presence.
Since then, we’ve doubled our team of journalists, while deepening our coverage of the key issues animating the EU. That’s allowed us to exponentially improve the quality of our monthly print product – with editions on enlargement, the European elections, the rise of the far right, NATO, artificial intelligence, climate policy, and (currently) the shape of the new European Commission.
At the same time, we’ve redesigned our website around core policy verticals in order to weigh into the daily EU discourse with news analyses, Q+As and timely features. We’ve also developed a range of new digital assets, upping our engagement across social media – with much more to come. Most recently – led by our trusty Deputy Editor, William Noah Glucroft – we relaunched our weekly newsletter: The Parliament: On Tap. Please do subscribe!
Next year, we aim to continue to grow the team – and our audience – while pivoting more forcefully to a digital-first strategy, whereby the print magazine will become a curated compilation of the best of our stories that have gone online.
In the meantime, thank you for taking the time to read our growing body of work over the past year across our platforms, and for the regular feedback we’ve received to help make The Parliament a sharper and essential read for the Brussels bubble.
Stay tuned. And happy holidays!
