Brussels, 27 May 2016 – At the close of the Summit in Ise-Shima (Japan), G7 leaders issued a declaration outlining their current thinking on antimicrobial resistance. In advance of this Summit meeting, IFAH-Europe had called on the G7 Summit leaders to consider a holistic One Health approach in dealing with antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and infectious diseases, as a reminder to policy-makers that AMR is not only a topic of concern for human and public health, but also for animal health.

Brussels, 19 May 2016 – The final report of the O’Neill Review on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), released today, overall makes some good recommendations in terms of encouraging innovation for the quick development of new diagnostics, promoting the use of vaccines and alternatives to antibiotics, improving surveillance of AMR and antibiotic consumption in both people and animals, as well as endorsing better incentives to encourage investment for new medicines and improving existing ones, as well as the setting up of a Global Innovation Fund.

 

IFAH-Europe Welcomes New ESVAC Strategy 2016-2020, should give fuller picture of antibiotic consumption in animals.

Brussels, 15 March 2016 – MEPs today voted on new rules that will enable a more optimal, efficient and responsible administration of medicines in animal feed.

Brussels, 10 March 2016 – Coming just days after the adoption of the new framework legislation on transmissible animal diseases, IFAH-Europe welcomes the strong signals sent today by the European Parliament to ensure the availability of a varied arsenal of veterinary medicines for the prevention and treatment of animal disease.

IFAH-Europe welcomes the efforts of the rapporteur and the members of the Environment Committee of the European Parliament in their review of the Commission’s proposal for a Regulation on veterinary medicinal products.

EFSA-ECDC's report on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) produced since 2010 is the 8th in the series and IFAH-Europe welcomes these reports. In conjunction with other reports like ESVAC, ESAC, and JIACRA, they contribute to a better understanding and knowledge of the issue of AMR across Europe, and help to see any trends occurring.

Brussels, Monday 14 December 2015 – New European legislation seeking to better prevent and control animal diseases are set to enter into force in the new year. This was decided by the Council of Agriculture Ministers in Brussels earlier today, after formally approving the new EU Regulation on Transmissible Animal Diseases.
