European Parliament

Committees and Delegations

Culture and Education Committee (CULT)
Milan Zver (EPP, SI) has been elected fourth vice-chair replacing Andrea Bocskor (NI, HU) who had been vice-chair since 2014.

Security and Defence Sub-committee (SEDE)
Rasa Juknevičienė (EPP, LT) has been appointed second vice-chair replacing Kinga Gál (NI, HU).

Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo Delegation (D-SEE)
Željana Zovko (EPP, HR) and Delara Burkhardt (S&D, DE) have been appointed as vice-chairs.

MEP News
The vice-president of the EU’s General Court has suspended the Parliament’s decision to strip the parliamentary immunity of Catalan MEPs Carles Puigdemont, Antoni Comín and Clara Ponsatí. The move comes after members of Parliament voted back in March to waive the immunity of the three MEPs accused of sedition in Spain for their roles in organizing a 2017 independence referendum. A final decision will be deliberated by the vice-president of the Court more thoroughly.

European Commission

Biliana Sirakova (BG) has been appointed to the newly created post of EU Youth Coordinator. Sirakova’s role has been derived from the EU Youth Strategy for 2019-2027 which seeks to realise the visions of young people by encouraging their participation in democratic life. In her position, Sirakova will be responsible for coordinating EU politics in favour of the youth, anticipating youth participation in EU initiatives, and giving visibility to youth ideas.

Directorates-General and Services

Budget (BUDG)
Iliyana Tsanova (BG) has been appointed as deputy director-general responsible for ensuring the sound governance and effective risk management of the borrowing and lending and other financial operations and activities undertaken by DG BUDG. In this capacity, Tsanova will act as chief risk officer, a function that will draw upon her skills gained as deputy managing director of European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) and in various senior positions at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Tsanova is currently working as chair of the Supervisory Board of SofConnect. She is predicted to take up her post as of 1 September 2021.
Dessislava Velinova replaces José Madeira as head of unit B3 (Revenue management and legal aspects) in an acting capacity.

Competition (COMP)
Peer Ritter replaces Christof Lessenich as head of unit B2 (State Aid II). Andrea Bomhoff replaces Ritter in his previous roles as head of unit D3 (State aid: Financial institutions I) and D4 (State aid: Financial institutions II) both in an acting capacity.
Franck Dupont replaces Anna Colucci as head of unit B4 (Mergers). Colucci was performing the role in an acting capacity.

Economic and Financial Affairs (ECFIN)
Matthieu Hebert replaces Iciar Rodriguez Miranda as head of unit A4 (Communication and inter-institutional relations). Rodriguez Miranda had been performing the role in an acting capacity.
Kristine Kozlova replaces Markus Schulte as head of unit L2 (InvestEU governance and advisory). Schulte had been performing the role in an acting capacity.

Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (EMPL)
Andriana Sukova replaces Mark Schelfhout as director of directorate G (Audit, evaluation and communication) in an acting capacity.
Cristina Asturias replaces Mark Schelfhout as head of unit G2 (Audit shared management I).

Financial Stability, Financial Services & Capital Markets Union (FISMA)
Petr Wagner replaces Almoro Rubin de Cervin as head of unit A4 (International Affairs) in an acting capacity.

International Partnerships (INTPA)
Caroline Wellemans replaces Elise Hadman as head of unit E3 (Sustainable Finance Policy). Hadman had been performing the role in an acting capacity.
Annica Floren replaces Catherine Ray as head of unit G3 (Youth, Education and Culture) in an acting capacity.

Justice and Consumers (JUST)
Florian Geyer replaces Nicolaas Bel as head of unit C1 (Justice policy and rule of law).

Secretariat-General (SG)
Kai Wynands has been appointed head of unit A3 (Multiannual Financial Framework & Annual Management Cycle) filling a vacant position.

Translation (DGT)
Joao Coelho replaces Maria Cristina De Preter as head of the Portuguese language department in directorate B (Translation).

Representations

Romania
Ramona Iulia Chiriac (RO) has been appointed as head of the representation in Bucharest. She will take office on 1 July 2021. Chiriac has been a Consul General of Romania in the German federal state of Bavaria since 2016 and has been part of the Romanian diplomatic service since 2008.

Other EU Institutions and Agencies

Court of Justice
Siniša Rodin (HR) has been reappointed as a judge.
François Biltgen (LU) has been reappointed as a judge.
Zoltán Csehi (HU) has been appointed to the post of judge.

General Court
Maja Brkan (SI) has been appointed to the post of judge.

Public Affairs

EUTurbines
Thomas Thiemann from Siemens Energy has been re-elected as president for an additional year. The leadership team of the association is completed by Emmaouil Kakaras from Mitsubishi Power, former president Michael Ladwig from GE Power and Sven Hendrik Wiers from MAN Energy Solutions as vice-presidents for the next two years.

IndustriALL
The Congress of industriAll European Trade Union has elected the organisation’s leadership team for the mandate period 2021-2025. Luc Triangle has been elected as general secretary, Isabelle Barthès and Judith Kirton-Darling as deputy general secretaries and Michael Vassiliadis as president of industriAll Europe. Single European Sky ATM Research Joint Undertaking (SESAR EU)
Florian Guillermet will leave his position as executive director, a role he has held since 2015, for a new position with Direction des Services de la navigation aérienne (DSNA) in Paris. Guillermet will take up his new position on 1 July.
