1. Which person you have worked with has most inspired you in your career, and how?
Maria Paola Colombo Svevo, who was - among other things - an MEP, for her open and rich personality, and for her strong commitment to the EU and to women's rights.
2. What was the smallest change you have made in your career that has had the biggest positive result?
When I decided to move to Brussels, as soon as I was elected to the European Parliament. I wouldn't describe it as the "smallest change", actually it was quite hard, but what came from that decision was much bigger and more important than what I could imagine back then. I really had the opportunity to make the most of this experience, which I have tried my hardest to do. Professionally, I have grown up a lot.
3. Is there anything you have personally achieved or done that would surprise people?
I can tell you what surprised me, for sure: since the birth of my daughter, I started occasionally baking her cakes. I was never really into cooking, but motherhood, as I found out, helps you discover new sides of yourself that you never had the chance to see before, or explore. It's an incredible journey.
4. What do you do in your free time to relax and unwind?
During working days I go running, early in the morning. I read a lot but not as many novels as I would like. At the weekends, we love to go walking in natural parks, or by the sea; anywhere far away from cities.
5. What was the most inspirational and influential book you have read, and why?
Le royaume, by Emmanuel Carrère. It's a spiritual journey and a lifelong research of the meaning of life, deeply rooted in our history.
