Eva Kaili
Greek S&D group MEP Eva Kaili is set to host next year's MEP awards.
An MEP since 2014, she chairs the delegation for relations with the Nato parliamentary assembly and Parliament's science and technology options assessment panel.
We recently caught up with Kaili to talk about her upcoming host duties.
Why is it important to recognise the work of MEPs?
European citizens are usually told about legislation that’s developed in their own member state, but they aren’t fully aware of the very important work being done at EU level. As MEPs, we work with colleagues from 28 different countries, and we have a more holistic and wide-ranging approach when dealing with every issue. Most of us ‘think European’. Therefore, it’s very important to recognise and promote the work of MEPs just as much as that of MPs.
What do the MEP awards mean to you?
It’s a chance to recognise and honour MEPs who have done good work in their respective field. I’m very pleased that this evaluation is also carried out by stakeholders, who follow our activities very closely.
The MEP awards are a respected distinction of the work of MEPs, and I am very proud to host the 2018 edition.
Which award are you most looking forward to?
As Chair of Parliament’s Science and Technology Options Assessment panel, and since my work mainly focuses on promoting the digital agenda and skills at EU level, I am most looking forward to the new technologies and digital single market awards.
The MEP awards are the annual celebration of our European deputies' hard work, and we look forward to recognising their achievements with you on Wednesday, 21 March, in Brussels' glamorous Concert Noble.
