Ukip MEP Gerard Batten has announced plans to run against British Prime Minister Theresa May to become the next MP for Maidenhead in the UK general election on 8 June. In a press release, Batten said, "Ukip faces the most difficult and challenging general election of our 24 year history. We are victims of our own success," and argued that "most people now believe (wrongly) that Theresa May intends to deliver Brexit. She doesn’t - she intends to betray it." Batten is expected to be formally accepted as a candidate on 27 April (tomorrow).
