Rudolf STROHMEIER has been appointed Director-General as of 1 May 2016, replacing Eva BEŇOVÁ who was acting in the role and remains as Director for Resources and Logistics. Mr STROHMEIER is currently Deputy Director-General in DG Research and Innovation (RTD).

Africa: Birgitte NYGAARD MARKUSSEN was appointed as Director, Deputy Managing Director, replacing Hans-Peter SCHADEK who was acting in the role. Mr SCHADEK retains his position as Head of Division, West Africa. Ms NYGAARD MARKUSSEN joins the EEAS from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, where she served as Director for Africa.
Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia and OSCE: Luc DEVIGNE was appointed as Director, Deputy Managing Director, replacing Fernando ANDRESEN GUIMARAES who was acting in the role. Mr ANDERSEN GUIMARAES continues with his position as Head of Division, Russia. Mr DEVIGNE joins the EEAS from the Commission’s DG for Trade, where he was Head of Unit, Market Access, Industrial Sectors, Energy and Raw Materials.

Acumen public affairs: was appointed by the European Health Forum Gastein to provide media relations support to the 19th European Health Forum Gastein (EHFG), which will be held in Bad Hofgastein, Austria on 28-30 September 2016.
International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP): Chris HAWKES appointed as the new Safety Director.

Romania: Minister for the EU funds Aura RĂDUCU, Independent resigned at request of the Prime Minister Dacian Cioloș due to dissatisfaction on achieving short term objectives. Cristian GHINEA succeeded her in the reigns of the Ministry.
Slovakia: the newly formed government under Robert FICO, Direction - Social Democracy (S&D) won a confidence vote and is set to be sworn in. However FICO underwent a heart surgery last week and remains in stable condition.
Spain: the coalition talks failed to form a government following December’s inconclusive elections. Fresh elections will be help most likely in June.
