S&D group press release:
Following the election of the former S&D Group president Martin Schulz as president of the European Parliament, the Socialists and Democrats will tonight elect a new Group president during their Group meeting in Strasbourg.
The deadline for candidacies for S&D Group president ended on Friday 27 June 2014. Acting European Parliament president and S&D vice-president Gianni Pittella was the only candidate to apply before the deadline.
The vote will be held in the Group meeting on Tuesday 1 July, starting at 6.30pm. The meeting is not open to the press.
Invitation to S&D Group press conference
The S&D Group invites journalists to a press conference on Wednesday 2 July 2014 at 2pm in Strasbourg. The new Group president will address the press and speak about the political priorities lying ahead for the new legislature.
