Sustainability starts at home. It is this simple yet important message that home appliance manufacturers will bring to the Sustainable Innovation Forum (#SIF15), the key COP21 side event in Paris to showcase the contribution the sector can make to sustainable growth, a key industry priority.
Says Alexander Lohnherr, CECED representative and Managing Director of Miele France: “The connected home we will present in Paris is the living example of what home appliances, thanks to industry innovation and responsible consumer behaviour, can do to contribute to the greening of our society and help tackle climate change.
He continues: “Appliances have significantly reduced home energy consumption. Today’s fridge uses one-quarter of the energy of a fridge of twenty years ago. Connected appliances go further. Everyone that is equipped with the new technology can make a difference and even save money. Just imagine, millions of washing machines and dishwashers switching on just as cheap renewable energy becomes available and consumers being financially rewarded for their energy flexibility by bringing forward or delaying the laundry? Or your fridge informing you about the risk of food waste and informing you when to maintain it to keep it in good condition?”
Paolo Falcioni, Director-General of CECED adds: “The whole way we think about energy and appliances is changing: active consumers coupled with technological innovation are at the forefront of this change. This forms part of our vision for 2025”.
